Epidermolysis Bullosa
Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic disease characterized by the
presence of extremely fragile skin resulting in recurrent blister formation.
EB is an inherited disease that affects less than 10,000 children and adults in
the United States.
People born with EB lack anchors that hold the layers of their skin together and
as a consequence, any activity that rubs or causes pressure, produces a painful
sore much like a second-degree burn. An activity as simple as holding the child
can cause these sores.
There is currently no cure for this condition.
